We came to know of the heartbreaking news of the tragic demise of our respected president, Dr. Aynalem Abraha,
Consultant Oncologist, department head of Oncology at Addis Ababa University, College of Health Sciences and President of Ethiopian Society of Hematology and Oncology (ESHO).

Dr. Aynalem was a great instructor, clinician, researcher, and an inspiring member of our association. He made an indelible mark with his dynamic leadership as president of ESHO. Establishment of ESHO wouldn’t materialize without his great commitment and dedication. He was always very supportive and motivating to his coworkers and students. We always looked up to him for his creative ideas. With his presence, he would light us all up with positivity. He would always keep his work and colleagues before himself and that is such a rare quality to find. During his time as a clinician, instructor, researcher, department leader and association president, he has achieved what all of us could just dream. His contribution as a mentor and leader will always be appreciated and remembered.

Having been fortunate to meet him, we were taken back by his sense of humor, kindness and brilliance. He was a great scholar and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years. We send our deepest condolences for his family, colleagues, students and patients. May we all be fortified by our heart-warming memories of Dr. Aynalem and the example of excellence he embodies. We are going to miss him deeply.
